Supporting BT DHO with ICT equipment

The Blantyre Prevention Strategy (BPS) aims to develop a replicable model for effective HIV prevention focused on embedding critical systems and capabilities into local government, civil society, and other partners to achieve the goals outlined in the National HIV Prevention Strategy (2018-2022). The Strategy also seeks to enable greater local ownership and community involvement for a more economical and effective long-term response to HIV. The Government of Malawi has chosen Blantyre as an initial district for implementation due to its high HIV prevalence and incidence rate and structural risk environment.

Blantyre Prevention Strategy has a Quality Improvement collaborative (QIC) component aimed at scaling up PrEP provision in Blantyre. University of California San Francisco – HEALTHQUAL is a BPS consortium partner and has subcontracted MaiKhanda Trust to support the District Quality Unit’s leadership in developing targeted quality collaborative for HIV prevention, including the implementation of a PrEP QIC in Blantyre as part of BPS.

MaiKhanda Trust together with the Blantyre DHO has strategically created a group of quality improvement mentors. The main task for these QI mentors is to facilitate quality improvement initiatives across all the QIC facilities. The main role of MaiKhanda Trust is to build the capacity of the QI mentors to efficiently lead and facilitate quality improvement in the district. Maximizing the support provided to the district QI mentors, MaiKhanda Trust in collaboration with UCSF-HEALTHQUAL procured ICT equipment for the district to support the QI mentors.

The ICT equipment procured were:

  • 5 Hp pavilion laptops
  • 5 LCD Projectors
  • 5 laptop bags
  • 5 External Hard drives
  • 5 porthub extensions
  • 1 MiFi with 1TB data bundle

The Human Resource Officer from Blantyre DHO officially received the equipment on behalf of the Director of Health and Social Services Dr Gift Kawalazira who was out of the district on official duties.

Venting to the support the Blantyre District Quality Improvement Manager was very appreciative. She alluded with gratitude the good partnership the district has with MaiKhanda Trust and acknowledge receipt of ICT equipment to support the PrEP QIC
